Commissioner: Since the beginning of the Russian invasion in Ukraine, 38 children have died, 72 children have been injured, 211 schools have been destroyed or damaged

As of 11 a.m. on March 7, 2022, since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 38 children have died and 72 children have been injured.

Establish accurate data on the number of killed and injured children in cities Mariupol and Volnovakha, Donetsk region, in Kyiv region is currently impossible.

During the evacuation of Irpin residents the Russian military opened mortar fire on the local population.  The whole family: mother, father and two children, were shot in front of locals.

As a result of a missile strike by the Russian armed forces with banned cluster bombs on the private sector in the city of Korosten Sumy region a young boy was left without legs.  He is currently in a stable serious condition.

At the same time, the occupiers again fired on houses and high-rise buildings in the city of Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region: at least 2 people were killed and many wounded.

Russian aircraft are inflicting devastating blows on infrastructure.  Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 211 schools have been destroyed or damaged.

The actions of the Russian occupation forces are a direct violation of Ukraine's children's right to life and security, guaranteed by the Hague and Geneva Conventions and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

I call on international human rights organizations to take all possible measures to increase pressure on the Russian Federation to end military aggression against Ukraine.

I ask NATO member states to close the skies over Ukraine!
