Commissioner: Irresponsible actions of the Russian military at Ukraine's nuclear facilities are an act of nuclear terrorism

Zaporizhzhya NPP and the city of Energodar were captured by the occupiers and have been under the control of their military units for 12 days.

As of this morning, the station has half a hundred units of enemy equipment and many russian soldiers, many explosives and weapons.  The occupiers continue to detonate shells and mines on the territory of the station that did not explode during its shelling.  The explosions were heard far outside the NPP site.

Employees of the station are under strong psychological pressure from the occupiers, all staff on arrival at the station are carefully checked by armed terrorists.  All technical decisions of the staff are forced to agree with the commander of the invaders.

Due to the actual blockade of the city of Energodar, problems with fuel, food and essential medicines continue.

The irresponsible actions of the russian military at nuclear facilities are an act of nuclear terrorism and a gross violation of the Convention on the Prohibition of Military or Any Hostile Use of Means of Environmental Influence and Article 56 of the 1977 Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions and other acts on the regulation of international obligations in the nuclear sphere.

I call on international partners and the IAEA to immediately take all possible measures to withdraw russian troops from the nuclear power plants and take these and other nuclear facilities of Ukraine under their protection.
