Commissioner: for the fifth year in a row, Oleksandr Korol, a citizen of Ukraine, has been forced to celebrate his birthday in the pre-trial detention center in temporarily occupied Donetsk

For the fifth year in a row, Oleksandr Korol, a citizen of Ukraine, has been forced to celebrate his birthday in the pre-trial detention center in temporarily occupied Donetsk. This was announced by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Lyudmyla Denisova.

According to the Ombudsman, Oleksandr was detained on September 19, 2017 in the temporarily occupied settlement of Olenivka, while returning home from Volnovakha to Makeyevka.

The family immediately started looking for Oleksandr, worrying about his health. On the eve of his detention, his sutures were removed after undergoing surgery for purulent gangrenous appendicitis.

The wife found Oleksandr in a temporary detention center in Donetsk, where he was sentenced to 30 days in jail. It was later revealed that he had been beaten and tortured with electric shocks in order to obtain "confessions".

A pre-trial investigation is currently underway. Representatives of the occupation administrations accuse Alexander of "espionage." He is a professional builder, allegedly creating maps of military facilities.

Alexander Korol has a disease of the cardiovascular system: hypertrophy of the right and left ventricles. As a result, he suffers from headaches, dizziness and shortness of breath.

Complications of acute gangrenous appendicitis have led to complications such as typhoid inflammation. The man constantly complains of acute abdominal pain and takes painkillers. In addition, Alexander has lung problems: he can not breathe without medication.

According to the Commissioner, Oleksandr is not receiving the necessary treatment in the Donetsk pre-trial detention center. It is necessary to count only on medicines transferred by relatives. However, according to his wife, not all of them get to him. Personally, she left the ORDO together with a small child due to constant threats from terrorists and the loss of her job. Alexander's daughter was 9 months old at the time of her arrest and the girl is now five.

"All the above actions against Oleksandr Korol are violations not only of Ukrainian law but also of international law, including the 1949 Geneva Conventions on the Rules of War, the Additional Protocols to the 1977 Geneva Conventions and the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. 1950, "said Lyudmila Denisova.

The Commissioner appealed to the ICRC leadership in Ukraine to pay an urgent visit to Oleksandr Korol and facilitate his immediate release. She also asked the OSCE Coordinator in the humanitarian subgroup of the Tripartite Contact Group, Charlotte Relander, to intervene personally to raise the issue of his release.
