Commissioner: Russia's invasion of Ukraine has violated children's right to life

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has violated the right of children to life, health care and decent living and development conditions guaranteed by Article 6 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This was stated by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Lyudmila Denisova.

A 17-year-old boy died during the shelling of the village of Semikhatky, Henichesk district, Kherson region. A minor died in a shelling of a 5-storey residential building in Chuhuiv, Kharkiv Region. According to the operative data of the head of the Donetsk regional state administration, a child died in Mariupol, Donetsk region.

The Commissioner states that the actions of the Russian Federation violate the obligation to ensure the protection of children affected by armed conflict, enshrined in Article 38 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Lyudmila Denisova called on the international community and human rights organizations to help stop violations of children's rights and increase pressure to stop the Russian armed invasion of Ukraine.
