Commissioner: enemy shelling continues to take the lives of Ukrainian children - a five-month-old baby died in Kharkiv

As of 10 a.m. on May 27, 2022, according to the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations, as well as other sources that need confirmation, 241 children (+1 per day) have been killed and 438 children (+2 per day) injured since the russian invasion in Ukraine.

It is impossible to establish the actual number of dead and wounded children due to the fact that the occupying forces are actively fighting in Ukrainian cities.

As a result of yesterday's shelling of the central districts of Kharkiv, 9 people died, including a five-month-old baby.  When the shelling began, a young family was walking in the street: a wife and a man with a five-month-old baby in their arms.  The man died immediately, the woman was hospitalized in serious condition.  Police later found the child's body: the baby was thrown up from the father's hands by an explosive wave onto the roof of the porch. 17 people were injured, including a 9-year-old girl.

A 15-year-old boy was also wounded as a result of enemy fire in the village of Borivske, Severodonetsk district, Luhansk region.

Such actions of the russian occupation forces are a direct violation of the Hague and Geneva Conventions.  The aggressor continues to violate the fundamental rights of children - the right to life and health, guaranteed to every child in the world by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during the russian Military Invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of russia's violations of children's rights in Ukraine.

I call on international partners to provide weapons to fight the aggressor country of russia!
