Enemy military operations near strategic facilities of Ukraine threaten the environmental security of our state. In the immediate vicinity of the war zone in Severodonetsk, Luhansk region, there is a nitrogen fertilizer plant.
As of February 25, 2022, the raw material for production is ammonia, there are no tanks.
It is planned to stop production in order to avoid possible emergencies due to the attack of the enemy army.
Ammonia is flammable, creates explosive mixtures with air, toxic.
I emphasize that the third part of Article 38 of the Protocol to the Geneva Convention prohibits the use of methods or means of warfare which are intended to cause or are expected to cause widespread, long-term and serious damage to the environment.
Our partners abroad must take all measures to stop the Russian military invasion of Ukraine and ensure environmental security in Europe.
