More than 800 students in the temporarily occupied city of Volnovakha are being forced by racists to study near the war zone

During the monitoring of social networks, it became known that on April 11, 2022, a school № 5 was opened in the city of Volnovakha, Donetsk region.

The school had 823 children and 45 teachers.

The occupying authorities have stated that children will study in russian language and according to the russian curriculum.

Involving children in training near an active combat zone poses a direct threat to their lives and safety and is a direct violation of Article 38 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child

Imposing education on the occupying country contradicts Article 29 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which states that the child's education should be aimed at fostering respect for the child's parents, cultural identity, language and national values   of the child's country of origin.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during Russia's Military Invasion of Ukraine and the expert mission set up by OSCE participating States under the Moscow Mechanism to take into account these facts of war crimes and Russia's violations of children's rights in Ukraine.
