Russian occupiers continue to put pressure on Crimean Tatars

On April 6, 2022, a 33-year-old citizen of Ukraine, a resident of Kherson Arsen Ibraimov, was unjustifiably detained at the Chongar checkpoint.

Without explaining the reasons for his detention, he was taken to Simferopol in the temporarily occupied Crimea, where FSB officers for two days under pressure demanded his confession that in the spring of 2016 he allegedly joined the Crimean Tatar Volunteer Battalion named after Noman Chelebidzhikhan in Ukraine.

On April 8, by the decision of the so-called "Simferopol District Court" on suspicion of committing a crime under part 2 of Article 208 of the Criminal Code of Russian Federation (public appeals to extremist activities) Arsen was arrested for 2 months until 08.06.2022 and placed in Simferopol pre trial detention center.

By illegally detaining and arresting citizens of Ukraine, the Russian Federation violates the right to liberty, security of person and a fair trial, as established by Articles 5 and 6 of the 1950 Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, Article 9 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 64.  Convention for the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, 1949.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during Russia's Military Invasion of Ukraine and the expert mission set up by the OSCE participating States under the Moscow Mechanism to take into account these human rights violations in Ukraine.
