Уповноважений: нарощування військового потенціалу поблизу ЧАЕС загрожує екологічній безпеці усієї Європи

Fighting by the Russian Federation in northern Ukraine and increasing military capabilities near the Chernobyl nuclear power plant threatens the environmental security of the whole of Europe.

According to the data of the Automated Radiation Control System of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, gamma radiation exceedances were recorded online at a significant part of the observation points.

According to the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine, the increase in pollution is due to the movement of a significant amount of military equipment, which causes the rise of radioactive dust.

Article 38 of the Protocol to the Geneva Convention prohibits the use of methods or means of warfare intended to cause long-term and serious damage to the environment.

Disrupting the stability of a nuclear reactor will result in a global environmental catastrophe.

I call on the world community to use all possible means to put pressure on the aggressor to force a cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, the withdrawal of troops and the prevention of radiation pollution in Europe's environment.
