Commissioner: Mariupol residents face dangerous infections due to lack of water and unsanitary conditions

Almost 100,000 Mariupol residents are in mortal danger due to the spread of infectious diseases, including cholera.

Lack of drinking water in the temporarily occupied city.  In addition, due to significant damage to filtration systems and pumps, drinking water mixes with sewage leaks and becomes unfit for consumption.

Lack of water, complete unsanitary conditions, rising air temperatures, lack of drugs threaten the spread of dangerous infections - cholera, dysentery, Escherichia coli, which cause severe diseases and lead to death.

The occupiers are violating the rights of Mariupol residents to life and medical care, which are guaranteed by the Hague and Geneva Conventions and are genocide of the Ukrainian people in accordance with Article 6 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during Russia's military invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of genocide and human rights violations in Ukraine.
