Commissioner: Crimean Tatar Rustem Emiruseinov is not receiving medical care in a Russian prison

Rustem Emiruseinov, a Crimean Tatar and a participant in the so-called Hizb ut-Tahrir Red Guard case, was sent to the Balashov prison in Saratov Oblast, Russia, to serve the first two years of his 17-year prison term. This was announced by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Lyudmyla Denisova.

According to her, Rustem is currently in quarantine. The man has a number of chronic diseases and complains of headaches, as well as the lack of vital drugs that were taken from him during the transfer. He is not receiving any medical care.

"By their illegal actions, the management of Balashov Prison in Saratov Oblast (Russia) violates Rustem Emiruseinov's right to life, health care and medical care, which are enshrined in Article 2 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, and Article 22 of the Minimum Standard rules for the treatment of prisoners approved by the UN Economic and Social Council, "said Lyudmila Denisova.

She appealed to the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia Tatiana Moskalkova to take measures to restore the rights of Rustem Emiruseinov as a citizen of Ukraine, including returning medicines, medical examinations and prescribing the necessary treatment.

"I call on the international community to pay attention to the violation of the rights of Crimean citizen Rustem Emiruseinov, to continue activities aimed at protecting the rights of all Kremlin prisoners, as well as to increase pressure on Russia as an occupying country," she said.
