Commissioner: a citizen of Ukraine Anton Hryhorov, who is in illegal detention in the Krasnolutsk Correctional Colony №19, has a disability of the second group

Anton Hryhorov, a citizen of Ukraine who is being held illegally in the Krasnolutsk Correctional Colony №19, has a disability of the second group due to exotic bone disease. This was announced by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Lyudmyla Denisova.

Anton Hryhorov worked at a chess school in Luhansk, which was temporarily occupied, and was a volunteer for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Ukraine.

He used to be an employee of the Taras Shevchenko National University in Luhansk, but in 2018 he was fired on the instructions of the so-called MGB LNR because of a photo in an embroidered shirt on Independence Square in Kyiv and against a blue-yellow flag.

Anton was taken hostage by civilians on March 13, 2019, when he was going to work at a chess club. On the same day, unknown gunmen came to his apartment and confiscated his computer, flash drive and notebook.

Initially, representatives of the occupation administration did not confirm the detention of Anton Grigorov, but later said that he was being held "as part of an investigation into the preparation of a terrorist attack." In January 2020, Anton was sentenced to 12 years in prison for "treason and espionage."

According to the information received by the Commissioner, Anton lost a lot of weight while in prison. Due to the progression of exotic bone disease on his body - 127 growths. He also has an untreated tumor in his head and needs immediate examination and treatment. He is not receiving any medical treatment in prison.

"All the above actions against Anton Grigorov are violations not only of Ukrainian law but also of international law, including the Geneva Conventions of 1949 on the Rules of War, the Additional Protocols to the Geneva Conventions of 1977 and the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. 1950, "said Lyudmila Denisova.

The Commissioner appealed to the ICRC leadership in Ukraine to pay an urgent visit to Anton Hryhorov and facilitate his immediate release. He also asked the OSCE Coordinator in the Humanitarian Subgroup of the Tripartite Contact Group, Charlotte Relander, and the ICRC leadership in Ukraine to assist in providing medical care.

Given the critical state of health of Anton Grigorov, the Ombudsman insists on his immediate release.
