A working meeting on prevention of human rights violations in the activities of law enforcement agencies and ensuring the right to protection of detainees took place in Poltava region

The Regional Center for Free Secondary Legal Aid in Poltava Oblast hosted a working meeting of the Regional Coordinator of Public Relations of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights in Poltava Oblast Vira Yakovenko with the Head of the Free Secondary Legal Aid Organization of the RC Lyudmila Armeeva and Senior Inspector on control over observance of human rights in police activity with deployment in Poltava region Department of observance of human rights of the National Park of Ukraine Natalia Nechepurenko, acting Bohdan Dyachuk, Deputy Head of the Poltava Oblast Patrol Police Department, and Iryna Pohrebnyak, Deputy Chief of the Poltava Oblast Police Department.

During the meeting, attention was paid to problematic issues during the detention of persons suspected of committing a criminal offense and their escort, as well as access of participants in criminal proceedings to quarantine restrictions, priorities and main measures taken by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and NPU to improve protection standards. the rights of police officers and detainees, the interaction of the Patrol Police Department and the system of free legal aid and the state of compliance with the requirements of the CPC of Ukraine during the detention of persons in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

In addition, they considered the main issues of human rights violations addressed by individuals to the regional office of the Parliamentary Commissioner in Poltava region and the shortcomings identified during the NPM visits in the region.

The participants discussed the mechanism of further cooperation on the implementation of human rights protection, the need for further legal education activities for the National Police and patrol police of the region and mechanisms for rapid response to human rights violations in the region.

Emphasis is placed on legislative changes that regulate the activities of the BVPD system and ways to prevent violations of the individual's right to protection during the transition period.
