Ms. Valeriya Lutkovska met with Mr. Pat Cox

During a meeting the Head of the Mission of European Parliament on assessment of needs of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for reforming Mr.Pat Cox in detail informed of the purpose of mission which consists in creation of "road map" of reforms for the Ukrainian parliament.

"The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights and Accounting Chamber of Ukraine as constitutional bodies of parliamentary control in the respective spheres are important tools of the constitutional state", – Mr. Pat Cox emphasized.

During a meeting results of effective cooperation of Ombudsman of Ukraine with parliamentary committees and People's Deputies which deal with issues of observance of human rights in Ukraine were presented.

"Though the Commissioner for Human Rights isn't vested with the right of a legislative initiative, however constructive interaction with members of parliament showed its efficiency. In particular, thanks to a principled stand of members of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for human rights, ethnic minorities and interethnic relations it was succeeded to initiate a number of important draft laws in these draft laws results of monitoring of the observance of human rights in Ukraine which is carried out by Ombudsman are taken into consideration", – Ms. Valeriya Lutkovska noted.

Mr. Pat Cox – the Irish politician, the European Parliament deputy. From 2002 till 2004 he held the European Parliament president's position. He is the active supporter of European integration.

On July 3, 2015 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and European Parliament signed the Memorandum of cooperation. According to the signed document, the European Parliament will support carrying out institutional reforms of Rada which purpose will be an increase of efficiency of work of the Ukrainian parliament.
