In May 2019, an application was submitted to the Accreditation Sub-Committee of the Global Alliance of Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) for re-accreditation of the Ukrainian institution.

Sub-Committee experts assessed the conformity of national legislation and the practical activities of the Ombudsman Institution in Ukraine with the Paris Principles.

In particular, the Law of Ukraine «On the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights», concerning the status and tasks of the Ombudsman, the structure and annual budget of the Ombudsman's Secretariat, and the Annual Report of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights for 2018 were studied.

In addition, I provided Sub-Committee with information on the implementation of the recommendations given to our institution in the previous 2014 accreditation process.

Following a transparent review of our application and interview, the Ombudsman's Institution was recognized as a legitimate, credible, relevant and effective national human rights institution protecting and promoting human rights at national and regional levels.

A Status accreditation reaffirms that our institution can be trusted as a reliable and independent entity.

Ukraine will continue to have the right to speak at the UN Human Rights Council and to express its position on the agenda.

In addition, the Ukrainian human rights institution confirmed its membership of the Global Alliance of Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) with voting rights at its annual meetings.

I am convinced that the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights will continue to maintain trust and international recognition, and will also be consistent with the Paris Principles, the main source of the normative standards of national human rights institutions.
