The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Mrs. Liudmyla Denisova together with the international delegation consisting of the Seimas Ombudsman of Lithuania Mr. Augustinas Normantas and the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine Mr. Marius Janukonis conducted a monitoring visit to the checkpoint "Stanytsya Luhanska"

Currently, the checkpoint "Stanytsya Luhanska " is the only entry and exit checkpoint in Luhansk region. Every day thousands of people cross the checkpoint on foot.

4 months earlier The Commissioner Mrs. Liudmyla Denisova conducted a monitoring visit to this entry and exit checkpoint. She noted that during the last 4 months, as a result of the joint work of the JFO command and local authorities, the conditions at the checkpoint have been improved considerably.

In particular, the throughput capacity at the entry and exit checkpoint has increased, the roads have been improved, sufficient number of restrooms and several medical centres have been installed. There was built and equipped a bomb shelter, however there are no signs where it is located.

The problem of receiving pensions and social assistance by the population remains acute. Members of the delegation visited the only mobile department of Oshchadbank on entry and exit checkpoint, where pensioners are being verified. During the monitoring visit there was a long line.

"Pensioners have to stand outside for 2-3 hours to go through the verification. I appealed to the management of the "Oschadbank" asking to extend the period of time for verification process, and also I drew attention to the need to increase the number of ATMs. In addition, it is necessary to reconcile the schedules of verification and payment of pensions and do it simultaneously ", - noted the Commissioner Liudmyla Denisova.

In addition, ATMs did not work at the department. There are only two of them, but they are hidden under the locks. Employees of the department explained the malfunction of the ATMs due to problems with the supply of electricity and lack of money in the department.

At the request of the Ombudsman of Ukraine to the head of the Stanytsia Luhanska department the funds were brought to the department and the process of verification and payment of pensions was done simultaneously.

The Commissioner stressed that the pensioners should be notified in advance about all failures in the work of branches and ATMs.

Liudmyla Denisova noted that the resume of operation of the entry and exit checkpoint in Zolote would have significantly dumped the flow of people crossing the checkpoint in Stanytsia Luhanska. However, the functioning of the checkpoint is still frozen.
