We have to take effective measures to integrate Roma people into Ukrainian society in order to prevent their discrimination

emphasized the employees of the Secretariat of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Ms. Kseniia Rodniak, Ms. Victoria Parubok and the Regional public relations coordinator Mr. Bohdan Boyko during the training “Recognising and responding to discrimination”.

During the training the discrimination cases on the basis of race, disability and gender were discussed. Special attention was paid to numerous discrimination cases of Roma people, as far as recently it has become a widely spoken issue not only in Ukraine, but also abroad.

During the training the participants also discussed the problem of limited access to various services for persons with disabilities and persons with limited mobility.

The participants learnt the particularities of the work of the Secretariat of the Commissioner and were trained on domestic and international legislation in the area of prevention and combating discrimination. It was done in a form of practical case studies on identification of direct and indirect discrimination, incitement, aiding and abetting aiming to learn how to detect signs of discrimination in citizen’s appeals.

The training was carried out for civil servants and representatives of local authorities within the joint with UNDP in Ukraine project “Strengthening capacities of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights at the regional level”.
