Ms Liudmyla Denisova asked ICRC to visit Mr. Oleh Sentsov and other Ukrainian political prisoners who went on a hunger strike.

The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Ms Liudmyla Denisova has sent an official letter of request to Mr. Magne Barth, the Head of the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Russia, Belarus and Moldova.

According to the Ombudsman, during the past couple of days she had been trying to meet with Mr. Magne Barth.

“I had been trying to arrange a meeting with the Head of the regional delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Russia, Belarus and Moldova since yesterday. I was told, however, that due to the tough schedule there is no such a possibility” – says Ombudsman.

Considering the above mentioned, Ms Denisova has sent a letter to the Regional Delegation of the ICRC in Russia, Belarus and Moldova with a request to visit Ukrainian political prisoners Oleh Sentsov, Oleksandr Kolchenko, Volodymyr Balukh, Stanislav Klykh and Oleksandr Shumkov who are detained on the territory of Russian Federation and in Crimea.

“I asked Mr. Magne Barth to visit detention centers, in which they serve their sentences, in order to check their health condition and to facilitate the organization of my visits to the above-mentioned citizens of Ukraine”, - says the Commissioner.

It shall be mentioned that Ukrainian Ombudsman had previously addressed to the Regional Delegation of the ICRC in Russia, Belarus and Moldova on May 25 the requests to check the observance of the rights of the convicts in the Russian Federation Oleh Sentsov, Oleksandr Kolchenko, Roman Sushchenko, Resuel Veliliaev. Besides that, the Commissioner also asked Vice President of the ICRC to facilitate the visit of the representative of the Organisation to the detention center in Simferopol and to check the detention conditions and the level of the provision of health care to Volodymyr Balukh, Uzeir Abdulayev, Enver Mamut, Remzi Memetov, Zevri Abseitov, Rustem Abiltarov, Enver Seitosmanov, Bekir Degermanjee, Asan Chapukh, Kyazim Ametov, Ruslan Trubach and Ismail Ramazanov.

Also, Liudmyla Denisova asked ICRC to check the detention conditions of the citizens of Ukraine in prisons and detention centers on the occupied territories.
