During the monitoring and control over observance of non-discrimination principle, an extreme form of such a phenomenon being crimes on the grounds of racial, national, religious or other intolerance, officers of the Secretariat of the Ukrainian Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights (hereinafter – the Secretariat) identified that there was a dispute between a group of activists and members of Roma community on the night of May 23 to 24, 2017 at the Kyiv railway station.

Other fourteen prisoners were transferred to the territory under the control of the Government of Ukraine

Today, on April 11, 2017, 14prisoners were transferred from the territory non-controlled by the Government of Ukraine. They had been serving sentences in places of the deprivation of liberty in so called “DNR” and expressed their wish to be relocated to the territory under the control of the Government of Ukraine to further serve the sentences.

Valeriia Lutkovska discussed with Ambassador Mara Marinaki implementation of the freedom from discrimination and gender equality issues in Ukraine

At the meeting with the European External Action Service (EEAS) Principal Advisor on Gender and on UNSCR 1325 Ambassador Mara Marinaki the Ombudsperson of Ukraine Valeriia Lutkovska stressed that over the last years she submitted to Ukrainian authorities a number of recommendations aimed at improvement of the national system of preventing and combating discrimination.

Statement of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Ms. Valeriya Lutkovska at the 34th regular session of the United Nations Human Rights Council during adoption of the report on Ukraine

On 17 March, 2017, twelve Ukrainian nationals, sentenced to different terms of imprisonment, were transferred from penitentiary institutions located on the temporary occupied territory of Crimea to the mainland of Ukraine. It became possible due to joint efforts of the Ombudspersons of Ukraine and Russian Federation.
